The OED Online has published a list of new inclusions in the internet version of the OED.
It's a fascinating slice of zeitgeist - emo gets in, as does FOAF, versioning, caipirinha... and strangely, polari - surely that's been in regular use since the fifties?
It feels oddly like a slice of my head.
There's a search under way for the earliest usage of some common words, too - which made me wonder about the ease of tracing usage in the age of the internet and complete searchability. Once google finishes digitising every book ever, and search engines get stupidly fast, hunting down that rare first attribution will be laughably easy...
