Facebook | AGA (Anti Gay Alliance)

The Google Cache - and indeed, the internet - has a very long memory. Once you post something to the internet, it becomes very hard to remove it. Things you post when you're 18 have a habit of sticking around until you're, say, 33. I know this, as my old posts still float around in old archives.

In particular, these three young gentlemen should be aware that any future employer will be able to Google their names for a very long time to come.

* Garren Salibian (Acton- Boxborough Regional High) (creator)
* Harout Yogurtian (Belmont High School)
* Garin Parseghian (Belmont High School)

They are the founder members and admins of the Facebook group, The Anti Gay Alliance.

Facebook | AGA (Anti Gay Alliance)

It is 'Dedicated to preserving straightness throughout the world.'

The people who have commented on the site should also be aware that their comments are now indexed and searchable, as follows:

For every deer that we shoot, we should shoot a fag.

I say all fags or fag lovers who talk shit on this group should get the fuck out and run into a middle of an intersection

Thanks for this, Kim. Leaving aside the views, the unforgetting/unforgiving nature of the net is something we've got to make clear to students.

As for the views … I often think of that thing you once posted about the powerful set of tools we've created and how they 'over significate and immortalise trivial social interactions'. This is vicious, ugly stuff and I hope their schools will seek to talk to them (and some) about what they're doing.

I didn't realize Armenians were so homophobic.

I'm not a facebook user, but how does facebook verify identities, beyond (I assume) email verification?

Worse than people being forced to live with what they wrote themselves, is living with what people posing as them have written.

I'd be hard enough having these things removed from facebook - but what if they somehow spread out into the wider, indexed, web?

"Preserving straightness"? I wasn't aware that being straight was in any way endangered - perhaps these are some forward sighted individuals who see a grand bisexual future and believe that quaint old fashioned heterosexuality needs a zoo somewhere to preserve it. >:)

Take care!

Is Google able to search web pages that are behind a login? I'm pretty sure it is not able to do that.

Do employers search Facebook? Surely some do, but my sense is that the overwhelming majority do not.

A professor friend of mine teaching a summer course for young professionals was teaching a class on resumes. Prior to the class she Googled each of her students and checked them out on FaceBook.

Some of them were a little shocked.

Also, remember that here in the US the Department of Justice was Googling potential interns and employees. If they were active in the Democratic Party then they weren't hired.

I'm wondering if my blog is keeping me from getting a new job:-)

I personally think it's great that you posted their names in black and white for everyone to read. To expose them as individuals, with their quotes right next to their names, is more powerful than just listing the group name. It's much easier to spread discrimination and hate as an anonymous member of a group, than it is as an individual.

When I am involved in search committes for new hires at my company, I ALWAYS google the candidates.

i dont understand why you listed all of the names of these kids. i dont think that ruining their future is a good way to get back at them. i myself looked at this group and saw that the violent comments were deleted and the people responsible for writing these comments were banned from the group. also the president seemed to be trying his best to keep it non-violent. althogh his actions were immature, i do not believe that you should try to ruin him like this.

hello Kim,
May I have your Email. I have a personal topic I would like to discuss.

i am not in this group or a supporter of it theh name of the group is beside the point....

kids in facebook accept invites sent by their friends...
as adults you should no better than to attempt to ruin their futures without knowing if this so called "alliance" is even true

Garin, Armogp55 - comments left here are forwarded to my personal email address; you're welcome to post what you need to say here. It's not hard to find my email address, though.

I've disabled anonymous posting, so I'll receive email addresses with comments.

The name of the group is largely immaterial. It's the public encouragement to 'shoot fags' that I object to.

Hi, I really am shocked to see this when I enter my name into Google... I did not join this group, and I find it strange that my name is spelled like it is with the A in my last name being capitalized..... I would appreciate it if you could remove it since I am in High School, and it endangers my privacy...b

Unknown said...

I agree with Jordan. This person should not have posted this article. It intrudes on privacy and its peoples opinions on their beliefs. Some people agree some people don't.

I would like to be taken off this list. Im sorry if I offended anyone by joining this facebook group, I was immature and now I accept people for who they are.. I would very much appreciate it if my name would be taken off of this list. thank you

Im sorry if I had offended anyone but I would like to ask to get my name off of this. I was immature when i joined this group and now I have learned to accept people for who they are. I would really appreciate it if my name would be taken off, thank you

I ask again to please remove my name from this article... These are not my views anymore and I do not want to be associated with this, kim, thank you

Hello Kim. I understand why you have posted this, but I joined this group back when I first opened up my facebook. I was so eager to join groups and meet people so i accepted as many group invitations, friend requests, and event invitations as possible. However, after I realized my name was on google for something like this, I left the group immediately. I don't see how it is fair to put my name up for everyone to see if I had a made a mistake like this as a young kid in high school, especially if I have completely deleted my facebook account already. My views towards gay people have never changed and I have never had anything against them, so I hope it wouldn't be too much to ask for to simply remove my name from this list for I am not anti-gay to begin with. I did not know joining random groups on facebook as an immature teenager would have come to this.

Thank you,
Allen Papazian

Kim, I am asking again to remove my name from this list, I fell it is unfair to publish my name as well as my location without my permission

I personally agree with the group. Throughout my life I have encountered (mainly on the internet), many ignorant, hypocritical, and paradoxical homosexuals, who contradict their own selves. I don't mean to sound homophobic, but that's the truth.

I think it is rather unfair to black list people because of their views. What so only gays have rights in this world? If you are against homosexuals you don't deserve a job? It is EVERYONES constitutional right to have an opinion gays alone don't have that right,if someone don't like you deal with it don't try to destroy someone over to your way of thinking.
